About our trip

We (Neil and Riss) have spent our last three years in Melbourne, and we are going home to Perth the long way. The purpose of this web site is to document our trip in a fun way (journals are so passe) and to help anyone else doing the same thing.

We have no 4WD experience, and will probably end up giving an insight into driving around Australia from people not-in-the-know. Everyone has to do it a first time sometime, and we certainly don't claim to be experts. Anyone with a clue is more than welcome to contribute!

We are leaving Melbourne on November 20th, heading up the east coast and arriving in Perth in late February next year or early March.

About the web site

Why did we build a web site about our trip? You'd think we'd had enough of web sites by now.

Well, there are a few reasons. Mostly, we were so excited about our trip that we wanted to tell everyone what we were doing. And rather than answer the same questions over and over again, you can just read all about it.

Secondly, while researching for our trip apart from tourism sites there was not a lot on the Internet to help us. So many people do the same thing as us, we thought there might be some really useful info out there. Unfortunately I think the Web has just got to the stage where ordinary Joe Bloes can pop up a useful web site and share that valuable information they are carrying around in their heads.

Thanks to the kind souls at work who helped me when I struggled with this thing. Charley, if it wasn't for you I would have (and should have) given up on Nutscrape. Oudy, thanks for putting up with me wheeling my chair over to your desk and asking you dumb questions for the last year and a half - you are the most patient soul I know! (Oudy and Charley, your blink, colour and alert requests for this page have been filled, as you will note). Tim, without your flying dunny budgies^TM this web site would be a lot more boring and a lot less cool. And Lauren, fountain of knowledge on all things Brunswick Street, I think I have just seen the tip of the iceberg on what goes on in your head!
