Mid December Amanda is flying over to meet us just after our week long respite (!) at Byron Bay. We'll spend a couple of weeks going through the parks, then head on up to Townsville ready to meet Shell & Dan.

the whitsunday islands

'Do not use kitchen knives to cut coconuts', the rule book tells us. Pretty tough..

There are 74 Whitsunday Islands in the Whitsunday Passage - only 8 of which are inhabited. We are sailing a 43ft Benetaeu yacht around many of the islands for seven days.

The resort islands are the most famous - Brampton, Daydream, Hamilton, Hayman, Lindeman (Australia's first Club Med) and South Long Island.

links

The best link for the area is the Hamilton Island web site. When you get there click 'about', then 'take a virtual tour'. It is a beautiful 3D tour of about 20 aspects of the island.

Pineapple plantations, pademelons, perenties, lungfish and a 10,000 kilometre fence are some of the things we are here to see. The journey from townsville to Alice Springs will probably be the hardest part of the journey.

With a bit of luck we can pop in on Sandy at the Mount Isa Mine and see the nuclear pools there.
